Mass Effect 5 in Good Hands, Being Developed by Original Trilogy Veterans
BioWare studio isn't going to take any chances with Mass Effect 5. The game's executive producer revealed that the most important positions in the team are filled by veterans of the original trilogy.
Even though it's been over three years since the first teaser for Mass Effect 5 was presented, we still know very little about this project. That's why we welcome every bit of information with great interest. The most recent reports have increased our understanding of who is involved in developing the fifth installment of the series.
- Michael Gamble, leading the team developing Mass Effect 5, has confirmed that it involves key roles being filled by veterans from the first three games in the series.
- Specifically, the positions of executive producer, art director, creative director, and game director are filled by people who worked on the original Mass Effect trilogy.
- Michael Gamble, mentioned earlier, serves as the executive producer (involved in the series since ME2), Derek Watts is the art director (having held this position for all three games in the Mass Effect trilogy), and Parrish Ley is the creative director (starting as an animation designer in ME1). The game's director is Preston Watamaniuk (associated with BioWare since Baldur's Gate 2).
- It's worth noting that these aren't the first reports about veterans being part of the Mass Effect 5 team. Earlier, we learned that the game is being developed by scriptwriter Dusty Everman, who has also been involved with the franchise since its installment.
Players should be pleased with this information, as they expect that Mass Effect 5 will be a return to the style of the original trilogy. Released in 2017, Mass Effect: Andromeda turned out to be a huge disappointment and such a financial flop that plans to develop additional story content were abandoned. On the other hand, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, released three years ago, featuring updated versions of the first three installments of the series, was well-received and demonstrated continued player interest in the franchise.
The desire to go back to the series' classic style is evident from the information disclosed about Mass Effect 5 so far. The initial plans for a large open world were reportedly abandoned, and instead, we will receive a series of smaller locations that aren't directly interconnected into one cohesive whole, with Liara from the trilogy making an appearance in the first teaser.
Unfortunately, we still don't know when Mass Effect 5 will be released. According to recent rumors, the premiere may not take place until 2029, but we hope that BioWare won't make us wait that long.
