Marvel's Spider-Man Sales Exceeded 20 Million Copies
Thanks to the CV of Sony's marketing director, we learned that over 20 million copies of Marvel's Spider-Man from Insomniac Games have already been sold.
Insomniac Games has reasons to be satisfied. The sales of Marvel's Spider-Man, released two years ago, exceeded 20 million copies. We've learned this figure thanks to David Bull's profile on LinkedIn, who is responsible for global marketing at Sony. When the post became known, the information was removed, but the players had already taken some screenshots.
It is worth noting that these 20 million include only the original PS4 edition. The updated version that comes with Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 5 has not been taken into account. Currently, the remaster cannot be purchased as a stand-alone production, but the devs have indicated that this may change in the future.
Crossing the threshold of 20 million copies is a big event, as only one game previously released by Sony (The Last of Us) managed to achieve this feat. It is quite likely that Marvel's Spider-Man will soon become the biggest bestseller in the history of the Japanese company, if it hasn't already achieved this position. Based on data collected by Gamstat, more than 30 million people have already played the title.
The success of the game shows that Sony made a good decision by buying Insomniac Games last year. The team is currently working on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, its first project developed exclusively for PS5.
Marvel's Spider-Man was released on September 7, 2018 on PlayStation 4, and this month we've seen the launch of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, something between a stand-alone expanions and a full-fledged sequel. The game is a launch title for PS5, so in the United States and several other countries its launch took place on November 12, in Europe the item went on sale today.
