DLC and Changes Failed to Convince Marvel's Avengers Players to Return
The arrival of a new hero - Hawkeye - to Marvel's Avengers and additional story missions didn't encourage players to return to Crystal Dynamics' game in significant numbers.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- The first major update for Marvel's Avengers didn't prompt players to return to the title en masse;
- Last weekend, just after the release of the new content, the number of players did not exceed 2750 - not even 1/10 of the users who played the title after the release.
On Friday, Marvel's Avengers received a major update introducing changes to the mechanics, new story missions, and the hero Hawkeye. Unfortunately, all indications are that the content did not convince the players to return. Yes, the number of users has noticeably increased, but at the best moment of the last 24 hours on Steam the title was played by only 2738 people - this is not even 10% of all-time peak record, which was set right after the release.
For comparison, No Man's Sky, which was once in a somewhat similar situation, attracted over 19,000 players thanks to the first major update. The result of Marvel's Avengers is therefore very disappointing, especially taking into account the expensive and high-profile license bought from Marvel.
It is worth noting that the developers have already announced further novelties in the form of more missions to be released this spring and summer. A little later the first full-fledged expansion will appear - War for Wakanda - in which we get, among others, the eponymous location, another playable hero (Black Panther) and new chapters of the story.
We can only hope that this will actually happen and we won't have to wait as long for this content as we did for Hawkeye (Clint Barton was originally supposed to join the game in November). The publisher's reaction to the game's poor results will also be of great importance - the disappointing number of players may push Square Enix to limit the planned support.
