League of Legends Takes Over the Subway in China
China is celebrating ten years of regional servers in League of Legends. To celebrate, one of China's subway stations has been given a completely new look.
League of Legends is extremely popular both in China and around the world. In the former, the famous MOBA debuted in 2009, and in 2011 it was bought by the Chinese corporation Tencent. At that time, the official Chinese LoL servers were created. Since then, 10 years have passed, which is the perfect opportunity to celebrate. In celebration of the 10th anniversary, one of Hangzhou's subway stations was remodelled to sport a game-inspired look.
This amazing transformation of the station, as well as the interiors of the trains passing through it, was shown on Twitter by lolweibo_en, who runs a fan profile dedicated to LoL (due to censorship the game looks a bit different). As we can see in the pictures below, the Chinese didn't pull their punches when decorating the station, filling it with posters and graphics related to the popular MOBA. Most impressive are the train interiors, which refer to the different regions of Runeterra. The photos show Demacia, Ionia, Piltover or Freljord, among others. Admittedly the whole thing looks amazing and for fans of LoL, quite numerous in China, it's a unique attraction.
In addition to an interesting way to celebrate the 10th anniversary, it's also a great advertisement for the brand, which, as you know, is not limited to video games. Since 2018, a virtual pop band K/DA operates as part of League of Legends, whose song POP/STARS reached gold single status in the U.S. this year. Riot goes even further in promoting its brand, creating the animated series Arcane or a mockumentary about a fictional eSports team.
