Kingdom Hearts 4 - New Game From Disney's RPG Series Announced
Square Enix has announced Kingdom Hearts 4 and Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, two new installments of the popular RPG brand.
Kingdom Hearts 4 will use Unreal Engine 5.
The developers have informed that although the gameplay footage was based on Unreal Engine 4, the full version will use the UE5 and thus offer higher level of visuals than what we can see in the first trailer. We are to receive, among others, more details and much better lighting.
Yesterday Kingdom Hearts series celebrated its 20th birthday. Square Enix decided to celebrate the event by announcing a number of new projects, including Kingdom Hearts 4 and the mobile game Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link.
Kingdom Hearts 4 announced
Let's start with Kingdom Hearts 4 because it was the most important announcement of last night.
The game will launch a huge new story line titled Lost Master Arc. The adventure will begin in the modern Japanese metropolis of Quadratum - much larger than any of the locations from previous installments. This place will be the target of the attack of dark creatures.
The game will see the return of familiar characters, including Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy. There will also be new characters, including a mysterious girl named Strelitzia.
Kingdom Hearts 4 - realease date
Unfortunately, the devs are not ready to give a release date. They only confirmed that the game is at an early stage of work, so we'll have to wait a long time for its market debut. We expect that the game will not come out earlier than in 2024/2025.
Kingdom Hearts 4 - target platforms; will it come out PC?
No target hardware platforms were revealed either. However, judging by the release history of Kingdom Hearts 3 we expect that the game will probably hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
The presented gameplay footage looks impressive, which, combining with the distant release makes it certainly a game for next-gen consoles. In addition, in recent years Square Enix released virtually all of its productions on PC and there is no reason to assume that the case of Kingdom Hearts 4 should be different.
Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts 4?
Most of the trailer shows the city of Quadratum, but there is also a short fragment in a forest. Fans speculate that this is the planet Endor from Star Wars, as an object that looks like part of an AT-ST Walker is briefly seen on screen.
Mobile Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link
Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link is a new mobile installment of the series. The game is coming to iOS and Android devices. This project is at a more advanced stage of work than KH4. No release date was provided, but it was announced that beta tests will start this year.
Not much is known about the game. The developers have only announced that in Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link we will travel between the magical land of Scala Ad Caelum and the real world.
Fans of the brand should also be interested in the information that the last chapter of the story in the mobile game Kingdom Hearts Dark Road will debut this August as a free update.
