“I’m Not Arrogant and Stupid Enough“. Jerry Seinfeld Brutally Honestly Explained Why He Didn't Create a New Sitcom After Seinfeld Ended
Jerry Seinfeld has made things clear, regarding his return to television, and the resurrection of the Seinfeld. However, this is not positive news for fans.
Seinfeld conquered television in the late 1980s and into the 1990s. The TV series created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld was regarded as one of the best and most influential TV show, also enjoying immense popularity. Not surprisingly, it has not been forgotten to this day, and viewers miss both the production itself and the ideas of its creators.
However, if anyone would still like to see Jerry Seinfeld on TV, the only thing left is to go back to old episodes of Seinfeld, as the actor has no plans to return. He cited his age as the reason, when he appeared on The Howard Stern Show.
I don’t like seeing old people on TV. I don’t want to inflict myself on people in a deteriorated state.
The second issue, if you were additionally hoping for the return of Seinfeld, is also not possible. The comedian has no plans to bring back his iconic TV show. It was created at an ideal time for it, the creators showed in it exactly what they wanted, and Seinfeld does not feel the need to add anything to it.
That's why no further season was made beforehand and Seinfeld ended at nine seasons. The creators didn't want to get to the point where it would become stale and negatively affect the perception of the whole, even if it would make them more money. Seinfeld knew when to leave the stage.
I’m not arrogant and stupid enough to think I did that, I know that I got caught in a, you know what we call, the perfect storm.
The love affair between the people that were making the and the audience was so intense, so white hot, I had to respect that. I could not go to that point where it starts to age and wither.
Jerry Seinfeld also doesn't think he'll be able to top what he did in Seinfeld, which led him not to create a new sitcom after that cult series ended. He preferred to take care of his legacy and leave the best possible impression, rather than take a chance.
That’s why I obviously never did another TV series. I’m not going to try and beat that. I can’t beat that.
So if you miss the humor of Seinfeld, you can just re-watch the old sitcom.
