“I Ruined the Whole Thing.” If Not for Josh Brolin's Mistake, This Classic Moment from The Goonies Could Have Been Even Better

Josh Brolin spoiled one of the most important shots in The Goonies, which the crew had carefully prepared for and which they could only shoot once.

The much-loved movie The Goonies is already 39 years old. However, the production is still not forgotten either by its fans or by the stars appearing in it, who very often took their first steps in it or it was their first glimpse of great fame. And so it was with Josh Brolin, who owes much to his participation in The Goonies.

The actor, who was early in his career, made mistakes on the set of Richard Donner's film. Including one that happened during the filming of the classic moment when the pirate ship is revealed. The filmmakers were keen, as in many other cases, to capture the authentic reactions of the young actors, including Brolin. Unfortunately, the Avengers: Endgame star spoiled the shot by shouting a curse word.

The actor told the story in a Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast.

I came up, they said go, and I heard everybody else coming up, so I was late. I wasn't thinking. I came up, I looked at it, I turned around, I looked at it and I went “f**k!”, and Donner goes, “What?!” I go “Sorry, sorry!” He goes, “Go back under! Go back under!” I ruined the whole thing!

The shot with a curse word, obviously, was not suitable for anything. So Donner lost the opportunity to put the real reaction in the movie, and had to settle for another take. Brolin, on the other hand, given his real reaction, was very impressed with the ship, which the film crew had previously hidden from him and the rest of the cast, precisely for the shot he spoiled.
