Humankind introduces big combat changes alongside discount and free weekend

Achilles Update will allow the Humankind War to continue even if our citizens or enemies lose the will to fight.

The free weekend for Humankind has started, and it has also received a new update in the beta version.

Developers from Amplitude studio announced the start of a discount during the latest Twitch stream. Until January 26, Steam users can check out the free trial version, and until January 30, Humankind will cost less than 8 bucks. This is not the lowest price in history, but it's still less than the game cost during the last Winter Sale on Valve's platform.

The mentioned update is also intended to encourage checking out the game (or returning to it). Achilles Update is, as we can guess from its name, primarily big changes in combat.

For example, players will be able to reject calls for surrender or a white peace, even if support for their war actions drops to zero. It should be kept in mind that continuing military action against nations ready to surrender will negatively affect public support for the war.

The game lets you declare an unexpected war at any time, and war support no longer impacts the War Score. Other famous historical figures, such as Sun Tzu and Alexander the Great, have also joined the game.

Humankind players have mixed feelings

For now, players seem to be divided on the issue of these changes. Particularly regarding the disabling of the Placate action during war, as it was somewhat too strong, but in peacetime, it's useless. Fans would prefer if Amplitude Studios took an example from mods that only nerfed this action from the Together We Rule expansion (for example, by increasing its cost during conflict).

Of course, it should be noted that this is merely a beta version of the Achilles Update, and there is a possibility that devs will implement adjustments for the full release of the update following these tests. To participate in them, you need to go to the game properties, open the beta tab, and select the appropriate option.

So far, neither the beta nor the free weekend have changed either the number of Humankind players or the opinions about the game on Steam. These latest ones remain "mixed." Perhaps the weekend will encourage more people to give this game another chance.

Hopefully, because in a month Civilization 7 will be released, which will undoubtedly overshadow all other 4X strategies for a long time. Unless the changes (including one inspired by Humankind) turn out to be misguided.
