Helldivers 2 - Not Getting XP and Rewards Issue Was Explained by Developers

It seems like the sudden success of Helldivers 2 surprised even its own creators. Some would argue that they were simply not prepared, and the game was unfinished, but that would be only partially true. The fact is that the title is still experiencing problems that prevent players from enjoying it to the fullest. One of the most painful issues makes it impossible to get XP and rewards. Among all the challenges, the developers are not burying their heads in sand and keep the communication flowing. Let’s see what they have to say about this particular situation.

Developing a game is a complex process, which requires a lot of planning, yet even after doing the homework correctly, it is not guaranteed that everything will go along as calculated. Helldivers 2 has bent under its own success, which was clearly not accounted for by the developers. However, they have shed some light on why the situation like this occurred and, among other things, they have explained why sometimes XP and rewards in the game cannot be gained properly.

Not long ago, on game’s official discord server, a member of Arrowhead Game Studios has informed that the devs are aware of such issue and that the team is currently working on permanent resolution. They have also explained that it is caused by overwhelming traffic on the production’s servers. Even though they have taken measures to mitigate the problem and increased infrastructure’s capacity, it was saturated very quickly. This was not for naught though, as it should alleviate inability to log into the game and decrease “Failed to connect to server” error rate.

Currently, there is no fix for the situation where XP and rewards are not assigned. It is all on the game server’s side, which due to high load is unable to track them correctly. The only official advice that was given in the aforementioned message, is to try relaunching the game in order to increase the chances of getting the overdue prizes.

It was also mentioned that there will be subsequent server maintenance periods needed that may temporarily deteriorate users’ experience while ongoing. They shouldn’t take very long, however, and they aim to permanently solve the most pressing problems that make Helldivers 2 hard to enjoy.

Nothing explains the fact that the title was not fully functional on launch, yet let’s appreciate that this game is not fully priced and costs $40 instead of the usual $60 or even $70 that is becoming more common. Hopefully all the challenges will be resolved soon, and we will be able to enjoy an otherwise well-made and fun game that’s constantly improving its overall score on Steam.
