Helldivers 2 - Is Armor Rating Bugged? Explained
An issue in Helldivers 2 is affecting armor rating, but there’s some confusion if it’s a bug or a feature. Here are results from players investigations about it.
If you’re playing Helldivers 2 and you feel like your armor isn’t doing much to protect you, it’s most likely not just your imagination. Players have noticed that armor rating seems to have no effect on damage mitigation. Some fans are calling it a bug, but others are unsure. Here’s what we know.
Helldivers 2 – Is Armor Rating Bugged? Explained
The player who brought the issue to the attention of the community was Wulfrayne, who posted a video comparing light and heavy armor. In both cases, it took the same number of hits to be downed by the enemy.
Wulfrayne crossposted the video to Reddit, where it prompted an active discussion about the current behaviour of armor in Helldivers 2.
There is a lot of misinformation and guessing going on in the community in regards to what heavy armor can and cannot help against. Some players seem to be convinced that heavy armor blocks explosives and projectiles. Meanwhile, others claim it makes no difference. In further tests on Youtube Wulfrayne attempted to show high armor rating doesn’t have much, if any effect against bots. The conflicting opinions show that the mechanics of armor in the game might be too confusing to players and could use clearing up by the devs.
What does heavy armor do, then? It definitely slows you down, which makes kiting more difficult. However, Vi8tnam in the Reddit discussion (linked above) has noticed a concrete benefit – with a higher armor rating, the player character’s limbs are broken at a slower rate, which can be seen in Wulfrayne’s video.
The majority seems to agree that for now, light armor is a better option in Helldivers 2. That is because the higher movement speed it allows for makes more of a difference in combat than anything heavy armor has to offer.
Some aspects of armor rating in Helldivers 2 definitely appear to be bugged. However, until the developers address the issue, it’s difficult to judge the extent of the problem. The players can only wait and continue to bring the bug to the attention of the team.
