Helldivers 2 Broke Starfield and GTA 5's Record on Steam. After Game's Great Success, Devs Need New Roadmap
As online shooter Helldivers 2 climbs the ladder of the most popular games on Steam, the developers are making plans for the development of their flagship game.
UPDATE #2
Arrowhead Game Studios' hit ended the weekend on Steam with a record of 409,367 players playing simultaneously.
The developers have also announced that they have once again increased the capacity of the game servers, this time to 450,000 people. Since PC and PlayStation 5 users are both fighting for democracy on the same servers, it can be assumed that the vast majority of them are playing on computers.
UPDATE #1
At approximately 9:00 PM today, 388,754 players were simultaneously enjoying Helldivers 2 on Steam. Thus, this shooter has already even broken the record of GTA 5 (364,548 people).
Helldivers 2 has unexpectedly become very popular. The devs probably never even dreamed of the number of 333,827 simultaneously active players (which allowed them to break Starfield's record).
It's clear from the issues Helldivers 2 is facing that the developers at Arrowhead studio were unprepared for such success. Besides the problems with overloaded servers, players are complaining about long wait times for rewards granted for completed missions. While the developers are already addressing these and other glitches, they aim to make up for the previous inconveniences by providing fans with a 50% bonus to experience and resources received upon completing the task until the end of Sunday (February 18th).
The outstanding reception of Helldivers 2 led the developers to reconsider their previous plans for the game's development and adjust them to the current situation. In response to a question from one of X's users regarding the Helldivers 2 roadmap, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt replied that "the team is working on it" because the old roadmap is "very out of date" compared to what the devs want to do now. Unfortunately, Pilestedt didn't disclose any details.
The CEO of the company also noted that despite the premiere week being incredibly exhausting for him and the entire Arrowhead team, he is "very, very satisfied" with the overall reception of the game.
