God of War Ragnarok Leak Enraged Developers; Retailers Taking Flak
For the past few days, all sorts of spoilers related to God of War Ragnarok have been making rounds on the web. It's all due to retailers who started sending the game to customers long before the official release. The practice angered the developers.
Developers at Santa Monica Studio have been doubling and tripling their efforts to keep the story of the upcoming God of War Ragnarok secret. It must be admitted that it worked out quite neatly for them, as we still know relatively little about the game. However, all this effort may come to a head on the last stretch before the release. All thanks to retailers, who began sending out physical copies of the game to buyers two weeks before its official debut..
The situation has greatly upset Cory Barlog - the producer of God of War, who in a post on Twitter referred, among other things, to the situation with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Recall that the shooter appeared in stores on Blu-ray discs, which include only the installer file. All the rest of the data required to play was to be downloaded from the Internet only when the developers allowed it. Such a decision can protect against the problems experienced by Ragnarok at this very point.
"You know, right now, I can really understand the benefit of having just an installer on the physical disc.
A retailer selling the game nearly TWO WEEKS before release. Just so disappointing.
Sorry to everyone that you have to dodge the spoilers if you want to play the game fresh. Completely fucking stupid you have to do this. This is not at all how any of us at SMS wanted things to go," read a series of tweets by Barlog, who added that the whole situation is "incredibly stressful" for the team (via VGC).
Shortly thereafter, there was also an official announcement from Santa Monica Studio. In the content of the statement the developers assured that they are making every effort to minimize the number of leaks. Unfortunately, it is impossible to catch all the spoilers, so the developers advise fans to turn off key words and hashtags related to God of War: Ragnarok.
As a final reminder God of War Ragnarok will officially debut on November 9. The game will arrive on PS5 and PS4 consoles.
