While the Ubisoft Massive team highlights the emphasis on the open world of Star Wars, Ghost of Tsushima was the primary influence for the developers of Star Wars: Outlaws, rather than Assassin's Creed or Red Dead Redemption 2.

Julian Gerighty, the creative director of the game, disclosed to GamesRadar that out of all the "Assassins," he has the greatest admiration for Odyssey. While working on Outlaws, he inundated the developers responsible for that title with inquiries about various design choices, such as the scale of the world and travel time between locations.

Expecting any open-world game creator not to be inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2 is also unrealistic. For some players, to this day it is the best sandbox on the market, and certainly a title that in many ways should be a model for the competition in terms of creating a living world.

Nonetheless, the samurai game from Sucker Punch studio caught the attention of the dev - representing, as Gerighty put it, the less Western inspirations of George Lucas, namely the films of Akira Kurosawa. Above all, the developer highlights the "clarity of vision" and the design of all elements of GoT to ensure that everything is aligned with a specific gameplay vision.

But I think that Ghost of Tsushima, what I loved about it was this purity of having a player fantasy and really leaning into it. This is the story, the world, the character, everything fits together with the gameplay guiding everything. That's the fantasy of you are a samurai ninja in Japan. That was one of the guiding lights for this [Star Wars: Outlaws].

Star Wars: Outlaw evokes strong emotions, including significant concerns following the game's previous presentations. Even after the latest showcase, few people expect it to be a masterpiece, although most journalists agree that the title should provide a lot of fun not only for Star Wars fans.

Star Wars: Outlaws will be released on August 30 on PC, PS5, and XSX/S. Then we will actually find out how Ubisoft's Star Wars will turn out.
