„Never Got Around to It.” Peter Jackson Has Admitted a Mistake in The Lord of the Rings. It Concerns The Character Played by Karl Urban

Even in The Lord of the Rings there were mistakes, and some fans are still discovering them today. Peter Jackson admitted that one of them was an oversight on his part during post-production.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy are carefully crafted films by Peter Jackson and his team that are considered cult favorites. Fans appreciate how hard the filmmakers have tried to capture the spirit of the books and how they have done their homework to provide viewers with the best possible pictures. To this day, the feeling is that it will be difficult to top what Jackson has accomplished with J.R.R. Tolkien's books.

But even Jackson and his team made a mistakes in a few instances, and that was in The Lord of the Rings. Maybe not everyone, but some viewers pointed out a mistake in The Two Towers that caused quite a stir, because in the scene after the Battle of Helm's Yar, which should have included Aragorn, Gandalf, Theoden, Legolas and Eomer looking at Mordor while sitting on their horses, Karl Urban was missing. Instead, there was a completely different person in his costume.

As it turns out, it was his double. The actor apparently couldn’t participate in the shooting of this scene for some reason, so a replacement was used. However, someone must have forgotten in post-production to put Urban's face on it, which resulted in a person unknown to fans in the film.

Peter Jackson commented on this error in the director's commentary video for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

He is Urban’s double. And I think we were going to put Urban’s head on him at some stage and never got around to it. But now, he’s just a generic Rohan rider.

So, as you can see, this was indeed a mistake, resulting from the team's oversight, and not the introduction of a character unknown to anyone, as some may have thought while watching the film. Such minor errors, however, do not affect the perception of Jackson's films, which is generally very good.
