Geometry Dash (GD) 2.2 Not Opening, Crashing on Launch Fix
If GD started crashing on launch for you, then you are not the only one facing this problem. Here you will find a method of fixing this issue.
It is not unusual for games to receive bigger content updates in the form of paid DLCs. It is not a rule though, as we were reminded by recent Valhalla DLC to God of War Ragnarok. It is a completely free extension for the owners of the original game but packed with amazing content. A bit smaller in its scale, Geometry Dash (a neat platformer title from 2014) also received a huge update marked 2.2. In the case of GD however, it caused issues for a great number of players for whom the game started to crash on launch. If you are one of them, we have a fix for you.
GD crashing on launch fix
Update 2.2 for Geometry Dash is a considerable in its size extension for almost 10-year-old title. It adds a lot of new features like, for example, new player icons, main level, game type and more. It seems though that it also broke the game for many, as a lot of players on Steam’s Community Hub started informing about a crash that prevents them from enjoying GD.
The problem here lies most probably in modifications installed for the title. It is a reoccurring theme for many game crashes lately. We have seen that in Cyberpunk 2077, Satisfactory, and Ready or Not. What to do then?
The solution is quite simple – uninstall all the mods that you have applied for the game. The most popular one is called Mega Hack that is a modding tool for GD. If you are unsure how to do it, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to the folder where the game is installed (easiest way is to right-click on it in your Steam Library, select “Manage” option, and then “Browse local files”),
- Delete everything except for Resources directory and the game’s executable (GeometryDash.exe).
- Then again, back in Steam Library, right-click GD, select “Properties…”, in the new window select “Installed Files” tab and then choose “Verify integrity of game files”.
- After the necessary files are downloaded, you should be able to play the title again.
If that won’t cut it, your best chance is to completely uninstall Geometry Dash and delete all the remaining files and folders. With that done, install it again and the game should be fixed.
As previously mentioned, mods can be a big problem especially when major updates for a game happen. It is important to keep your modifications up to date, so they won’t cause issues. Bear in mind that mod developers usually patch their creations to be in line with the game version, though it always comes with delay.
