GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Not Far Away; Said to Pack More VRAM Than RTX 3080
GeForce RTX 3080 Ti still doesn't have an official release date. However, recent rumors suggest that we won't be waiting long for the debut of this GPU.
The next chip in GeForce RTX 3000 family could come out as early as next month. That's according to Chinese website MyDrivers, which is "almost certain" that RTX 3080 Ti will launch around mid-April. The card was supposed to be available as early as January, but its release was delayed twice, the second time allegedly indefinitely. In the meantime, there were also rumors (via Twitter) about the possible abandonment of 20 GB of VRAM in the model in favor of 12 GB while expanding the bus (from 320 to 384 bits). Combined with the number of CUDA cores not far behind RTX 3090 (10240 to 10496), this should provide performance closer to 3090 than RTX 3080.
The release of new hardware - be it consoles or PC components - should be a small celebration for gamers. Unfortunately, the launch of PlayStation 5, GeForce RTX 3000 and Radeon RX 6000 series had one thing in common: huge availability problem. The pandemic and the ensuing production bottlenecks did their part, as did scalpers and cryptominers buying up the already scarce cards from stores.
It was these availability issues that were supposed to be the reason for the delayed release of GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. Nvidia also introduced restrictions that reduce the performance of RTX 3060 when mining and a similar solution is expected to be found in RTX 3080 Ti as well. However, whether this will be enough for the stores to receive a sufficient number of cards to at least partially meet the needs of the market, will be revealed only after its launch. We emphasize - the information about the April launch has not been confirmed.
