Original news
Our vote for the best games of the 8th generation of consoles has launched! It's 2021 and the next generation of consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X, is well underway – though it still hasn’t fully unfurled, so it’s a great time for all kinds of rankings and recaps. Check our voting page and cast your nominations – you can vote for as many games as you like!
The 8th generation of consoles began in 2012 with the release of the Nintendo Wii U. However, it wasn't until 2013 that it started to really take off, hence we've chosen 2013 as the starting year. You'll find plenty of games on the list – including some multiplatform titles. We also have a few hits originally released for the previous generation but were so popular and strongly developed in subsequent years that it would be impossible to skip them here.
So, this list will be full of gems, and you must pick your favorites – the games that did something special for you, and which may have stuck around till today. Those seven or eight years brought some amazing games that we keep coming back to after all the years.
We're excited about the future, waiting for the 9th generation to fully kick into gear. But this, of course, is just the calm before the storm, with games like new Halo and God of War Ragnarok already announced and promising an entertaining future.
Which was the best game of the 8th generation? Has Sony's focus on exclusives paid off, or has Microsoft's availability-based policy brought them more good? Or maybe it was Nintendo who brought us the best game, as usual going at least a little against the grain? It's hard to say what's going to happen in the next 10 years – but surely, the competition from the big companies will give us what we want – even more great games to define the next generation.
So, take a look at our vote and share the link with your friends. The more votes, the better!
