Game of Thrones Prequel - Casting has Begun
The first of the spin-offs to Game of Thrones, titled House of the Dragon, is being created and the creators have officially started casting activities. This is an important step to meet the release date planned for 2022.
The eighth season of Game of Thrones was a huge disappointment for many fans, although the whole series went down in history as one of the most monumental works of medieval fantasy. No sane executive would agree to killing off of such a brand, so the work on two prequels - Bloodmoon and House of the Dragon - was announced quite quickly. The first of them was canceled after some time, and the second one was directed to realization. We can also officially announce the start of casting for the upcoming spin-off.
This is a good sign in the context of produces making the planned deadline. The premiere date was set for an unspecified part of 2022, so with an appropriately imposed pace of work, the production will make its debut within the given time frame. Of course, the plans may be thwarted by the coronavirus, but this is an element that the producers have no influence over.
The prequel's action will take place 300 years before the events of the original Game of Thrones and will focus on the history of House Targaryen (those from Danny). The plot will be based on George R.R. Martin's book Fire and Blood. For the time being, only the first volume is available, so once again there is a risk that the producers will run out of source material at some point. This is bad news given the case of the showrunners of the previous series, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, who in recent seasons had to base on own ideas and the verbal message of the author of the saga.
HBO is very cautious about the show's advertising strategy, not wanting to reveal too much. This is strongly related to the fact that at the moment there is not enough material to share with impatient fans. The above family crest, together with the title is so far the only official material available on the Internet. We will have to wait a bit longer for more.
