Galactic Civilizations 4 Announcement and First Trailer
After almost 6 years since the release of Galactic Civilizations 3, devs at Stardock announced the fourth installment of the space strategy. At the same time, the creator of the series admitted that the previous game wasn't perfect.
Stardock, the studio responsible for the Galactic Civilizations series announced that works on the fourth installment of the 4X space strategy game have begun. The first short trailer is available below.
In the first post on the game's official website the game's creator and director of the company Brad Wardell admitted, that in his opinion Galactic Civilizations III was a good game, but not perfect, because it was a step backwards, especially compared to the second installment. Galactic Civilizations II was filled with various interesting events that increased immersion, and a large amount of detail made each session different from the last. The third installment, on the other hand, is a game of its era and the solutions it featured were the results of various compromises. The studio wanted to create a title that would appeal to both old-timers and casual gamers alike. Ultimately, according to Wardell, Galactic Civilizations III had too high an entry threshold for the 'mainstream', and in turn, fans of the genre turned to Stellaris.
Because of this, the next game is expected to be perfect, as the studio has the tools to make it so and has learned from the development of the third installment. In the fourth installment the emphasis will be put on NPCs, who are to be more than just pawns on the space map. In addition, the situation will be influenced by many more factors and mechanics that will take at least a few playthroughs to master. At the same time, the rules of GCIV are supposed to be easy to understand.
The previous installment was released on May 14, 2015 and is still receiving support from the developers. Recently, the devs announced the next update, which is expected to come out to celebrate the sixth anniversary of Galactic Civilizations III's release.
