Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem devs announced new, free-to-play action RPG. Game combines fast-paced Diablo-style combat with Escape from Tarkov mechanics
Project Pantheon from the creators of Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem was announced. The title is a mix of hack'n'slash and an extraction shooter.
Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, despite initially dominating Steam with impressive activity results, ultimately couldn't withstand the test of time and recently came to an end. The studio responsible for the game has shifted its efforts to a new project, which was officially announced yesterday. Below you can watch the first trailer of the title with the code name Project Pantheon.
A mix of Diablo and EfT
It appears that Wolcen Studio doesn't plan to abandon the hack'n'slash genre but aims to greatly diversify it by incorporating elements from games like Escape from Tarkov or Dark and Darker. This combination led to the creation of something the developers refer to as an "ExtrAction RPG."
Project Pantheon delivers a unique experience by merging the fast-paced combat of action RPGs with the tension and risk-reward gameplay mechanics of extraction shooters Project Pantheon is what would happen if Diablo and Escape From Tarkov had a baby We are eager to see how our players react!
We will start our adventure at the base camp, where we will adjust our equipment and prepare for the expedition. We will be able to improve the camp, thus gaining more opportunities. Next, we will go to one of several unique maps, where loot and challenges await us.
From this place, we will start the slaughter, fighting our way through creatures and players, collecting items along the way, to finally retreat to a safe place. We will equip the loot we acquire according to our needs to strengthen our character or sell it to other players.
Of course, as in the case of EfT, death will mean the loss of not only the collected loot but also the equipment. You can think of it as a hardcore mode in PoE or Diablo, but in this case, the character stays alive and you can continue to play with it. So it's a familiar loop for people who play extraction shooters.
Will this mix of genres prove to be a success? You will be able to see for yourself on Saturday, January 25, when the closed alpha tests of Project Pantheon will launch. However, they will only last one day and will be available to a select group of people. You can sign up on the official game website.
