Five Nights at Freddy's Movie Demolished by Reviewers
According to reviewers, Five Nights at Freddy's breaks with the good streak of adaptations of video game. The movie fails across the board and will probably not appeal even to the biggest fans of the series.
Five Nights at Freddy's hits theaters on a wave of successful video game adaptations. Sonic, Mario and The Last of Us have shown that it is possible to create an engaging movie based on digital entertainment. Unfortunately, the first reviews indicate that the movie adaptation of the popular horror games series is a failed product that will be hard to digest even for the most hardcore fans.
Blumhouse has a lot of great productions in its library, including, among others, the big hit of early 2023 - M3GAN. Five Nights at Freddy's is expected to disappoint, however, as can be inferred from the first reviews made available.:
"Five Nights at Freddy's surprisingly assumes that loyal fans are expecting a tacked-on new story surrounding an amazing horror movie. Turn off your monitors, slam the door or just play the games again," writes A.A. Dowd (IGN)
"You'll see fewer killer robots on screen than you might expect, and the sheer carnage is severely curtailed by the filmmakers' strenuous attempts to keep the movie at bloodless PEGI-13. And for what? Most fans of the game may already be drinking, and it's hard to believe that anyone new will be drawn into the universe by this adaptation," declares Clarisse Loughrey (The Independent)
"With robot heads wielding flesh-tearing power saws, faces reminiscent of battle-damaged Terminator faces and Romero's slow zombie gait, Freddy Fazbear and his pals give the impression of precise instruments of terror. Unfortunately, they are as scary as Barney the purple dinosaur and thus the movie is incredibly predictable and boring, concludes Neil Smith (Games Radar)
It seems that most of the movie's flaws stem from the age restriction that the filmmakers decided to adhere to. Because of this, the scary animatronics aren't that scary, and ultimately the adaptation fails, despite having the potential for much more.
However, these are still just journalists' reviews. Five Nights at Freddy's hits the theaters tomorrow, on October 27, and fans will have the opportunity to go to the screening and then evaluate the production themselves. Then we'll see whether this time, too, the opinions of viewers and reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes diverge strongly, or whether they will be more in line.
