Movies with dogs partnering the main characters are numerous. Dogs on the screen often steal the show and the hearts of viewers, despite being in the background or even further away. However, this year saw the debut of a film that shows us a dog's perspective in an unusual genre – horror. And it won't be another movie about a talking dog, but an ordinary dog that can at most bark.

Where to watch Good Boy?

This indie film debuted at the SXSW Film Festival on March 8, 2025, quickly stealing the hearts of critics who gave the production positive notes. And so far, it was only during SXSW that the film could be seen. But what now, after the festival is over?

On Instagram, the filmmakers shared the news that Good Boy is heading to The Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans, which takes place from April 3-6, 2025. For now, however, it is unclear when exactly Good Boy will be screened. That should become clear on March 19, 2025. Tickets and passes for The Overlook Film Festival can be purchased at the festival's official website.

For now, nothing is known about the film's theatrical release. It's an independent production, where a lot depends on whether it will be picked up by a distributor willing to make sure that Good Boy is released in theaters for a wider audience than festival audiences. For the time being, however, Good Boy can only be watched at festivals. It's possible that more than just SXSW and The Overlook Film Festival are in the plans of the filmmakers.

What is Good Boy about?

Meet Indy. He's a good boy and a faithful dog who bravely stays by the side of his human Todd. After they move together to an empty family house in the countryside in search of quiet, Indy notices a strange, malevolent presence lurking in the shadows. It's an evil that he is the only one who can see. And only he can defend his human from this.
