First in 18 Years Star Wars Strategy Game in Development, Dev Confirms
Fears about the fate of the Star Wars strategy from Bit Reactor studio proved unfounded. Cost cuts at Electronic Arts didn't affect the project.
Last week, Electronic Arts announced massive layoffs. The decision led to the cancellation of a single-player FPS game set in the Star Wars universe, which was being developed by Respawn Studio. However, the fate of the strategy game based on this license, supervised by this team, and which the Bit Reactor studio is working on, was unknown. Fortunately, this project managed to escape the axe.
- This information was confirmed by the Bit Reactor studio itself. The team expressed regret over the layoffs but also assured that they are still working on their game, and the cost-cutting measures by EA won't impact the game.
- Unfortunately, it's not known when the title will be announced. When fans asked about it, Bit Reactor studio only responded that they would reveal the project only when they were ready for it.
We first heard about the game in 2022. Bit Reactor Studio was founded by veterans of the XCOM series, and the strategy they are working on will almost certainly be turn-based. At least this can be concluded from the job offers, in which the team is looking for a gameplay designer with experience in developing turn-based games.
Interestingly, the game by Bit Reactor may not be the only Star Wars strategy game currently in production. Last year, rumors were suggesting that there are also plans for an RTS based on this license, which would please fans of the cult Star Wars: Empire At War. It's about time we received a new game in this genre, as this classic from 2006 was the final strategy set in this universe and designed specifically for PC.
