Fan Spent Last 5 Years Building City in Minecraft; Started on iPhone
One of Reddit users showed off a project in Minecraft, on which he has already spent five years. The construction of the city is by no means finished and the creator promises more years of hard work.
There is no shortage of extremely ambitious architects and builders among Minecraft players. One of them is Reddit user Memesmakememe, who presented a project of his own city developed for five years.
The player started building the metropolis at the age of 13 and now, after several years of work, decided to show off his creation. Interestingly enough, he started the work using an iPhone but, as he claims, the project grew so big that he was forced to switch to PC.
"I started this world on my iPhone 4S on Minecraft Pocket Edition. Maybe 2 years ago I moved it to Win10 out of necessity as the world had grown to be 200+ mb and simply didn’t run well on my phone. I’m aware there are tools to convert my world to Java edition and I’ve played around with the idea frequently but the amount of work it would take to convert my custom textures to Java have just turned me off doing it. I also just find that I have such a deep understanding and feel for bedrock that I might as well continue because it’s just more stable (...)"
The author himself doesn't know how big his city is, but what we see on the pictures is supposedly about half of the created metropolis (not counting other towns in that particular world). Every building was built from scratch and is not a copy of any existing structures. The texture pack itself, on which the project is based, is something the player worked on independently, although these are only small tweaks to the original skins. The agglomeration is not yet complete and the creator himself doesn't know if it ever will be. He doesn't even have an idea of what to actually do with his world.
"I have considered a lot with the city because not doing something would feel like a waste. I feel you there would be interest on YouTube however I don’t think I could spin it in a way that would be entertaining. I’m also so late into construction that explaining certain design choices, my plans with the city, and other shit would be really hard and require a ton of boring ass exposition. I’ll release a download at some point in the future that is a guarantee but that is potentially YEARS in the future."
Many commentators admire the creator's determination and talent. The builder himself stresses that if it weren't for his true love of gaming and architecture, he would never have persevered this long. Unfortunately, as he admitted, he couldn't become a civil engineer in real life, so he decided to fulfill him ambition in this field with the help of Minecraft.
"(...) this is primarily just a way for me to take out my architectural urges. Unfortunately reality got in the way of dreams and I’m studying as a computer science major instead of architecture because my girlfriend is a film student and one of us has to actually make money lmaoo," Memesmakemememe sums up.
