Factorio Devs on Price and DLC Size

Wube Software revealed some new details about the upcoming expansion for Factorio. We found out how big the DLC is going to be and how much it will cost.

It's been a year since Wube Software revealed that they are working on an expansion for Factorio. Since then the project went off the radar. Now the developers have broken the silence by announcing that work on the DLC is progressing well and revealing the scale of the expansion, as well as planned price. Unfortunately, among the shared details there was no release date.

Factorio's DLC will cost the same as the full game

The price of the add-on is expected to be $30, which is exactly the same as the cost of the full version of Factorio on Steam.

This may seem like a strange move, but the reason for this is simple:

The expansion will be as extensive as Factorio itself

The DLC is to be as big as the basic version of Factorio so after installing it the game content will be doubled. That's why they decided to set the price at the same level.

Back when announcing the project a year ago, the developers from Wube Software informed that they do not fancy releasing a big number of smaller DLC and want to prepare one big expansion instead.

The game will treat the expansion as a mod

First the authors are going to release patch 1.2 for Factorio and it is on this version that the expansion will be based. The expansion will be treated by the game as a mod, although the project itself is obviously much larger and more ambitious than any mod. As a result, even after its installation it will be possible to disable it in the menu, e.g. in order to play a session without the DLC.

There will also be no problems with playing in multiplayer with people not owning the DLC. At the same time, many gameplay and engine improvements offered by the expansion will be made available for free to owners of the basic version of Factorio.
