Halo Infinite Lost Most of Players on Steam
In three less than months, Halo Infinite has lost nearly 90% of players on Steam. That said, the game has a chance to regain some of that in the coming months.
It will soon be three months since the release of Halo Infinite's online mode. It's a good time to see how the game is doing on Steam. Looking at the data from SteamDB the title has already lost almost 90% of players. Its all-time activity record, set shortly after its debut, stands at 272,000 people, while at the hottest moment yesterday, 28,668 users were playing the game.
Steam data does not fully reflect Halo Infinite's condition
Such a drop has inspired several articles (e.g. by Business Insider) about the game's weakening position. However, the data from Steam doesn't fully reflect the game's condition. Halo Infinite is also available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and the brand's fan community is much stronger on consoles than on PC.
In addition, the PC version is available through the PC Game Pass subscription. Usually in the case of free-to-play games most players would choose to play via Steam, but in this case only the online module is free, and the campaign needs to be purchased. The story mode is available through said subscription at no additional cost, so many PC gamers will likely stick with the Game Pass edition.
The Future of Halo Infinite
Anyway, even on Steam we can already see the beginnings of stabilization. In the last two weeks the outflow of players slowed down and at the hottest moments about 25-30 thousand players were playing the game daily.
Also keep in mind that the coming months will be full of events that should encourage players to return to Halo Infinite. In May, the Forge mode will debut, enabling fans to create their own gameplay variants and maps. At the same time, the first full season with a unique battle pass is expected to launch.
Recall that the free multiplayer mode of Halo Infinite debuted in November 2021 (as part of an open beta), and the paid story campaign was released in December.
Two weeks ago, Microsoft boasted, that over 20 million people have already played Halo Infinite. Thus, the game recorded the best debut in the history of the brand.
