Work on New Fable Started Right After Lionhead Shutdown and Said to Continue to This Day

A post by a Playground Games employee suggests that work on the Fable reboot began shortly after Lionhead Studios shut down. It may have been in development for as long as four years at this point.

Last July, after many years of waiting, we finally lived to see the announcement of a new installment of Fable. Playground Games, the developer known for the Forza Horizon series is responsible for the new game. LionHead Studios, the developer of the previous installments, was closed in 2016, and Fable Legends, which they were developing at the time, was canceled. The little information that has been revealed about the new Fable suggests that the game is at a very early stage of development. However, a recent tweet from a Playground Games employee seems to contradict this theory:

If this information is true, it would mean that work on the Fable reboot began a year after LionHead closed down.. This seems much more likely if we take into account leaks from 2018, which already then mentioned the involvement of Playground Games in the new installment of the series.

This does not immediately mean that the "proper" development of the reboot has been going on for 4 years, and most likely only the stage of the initial pre-development has started. One of the main goals of this phase is to create clear and easy to understand documentation that includes all the guidelines of the project and the schedule of work on it (concept arts, etc.). Perhaps further information about the Fable reboot will be revealed during Microsoft's special 20th anniversary of the Xbox franchise. It will take place on November 15 at 10:00 AM PT.

The latest game from Playground Games is Forza Horizon 5, which will be released the day after tomorrow (November 9). Our editors gave the game a9.3/10. The title will be available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. At this point, we do not know when Fable reboot will be released, but the target platforms for the new installment are PC, Xbox Series X/S.
