Epic Games' CEO Responds to Allegations of Eulogizing PS5
According to Internet users, warm words about PlayStation 5, which we heard from Epic Games devs, could have been dictated by an agreement with Sony. The discussion began after the Japanese invested 250 million dollars in Fortnite's creators.
Yesterday, we announced that Sony had acquired a minority stake in Epic Games for a substantial amount of $250 million. As expected, it caused a stir among Internet users. They saw something more in the tightening of cooperation between the two companies. According to many people, it was this transaction that resulted in the warm words on PlayStation 5 that Epic Games had recently published.
- Sony has purchased Epic Games shares worth $250 million.
- Tim Sweeney assures that the investment had nothing to do with his positive opinion on PS5.
- According to Epic Games' CEO, the idea of expanding the cooperation appeared after presenting the Lumen in the Land of Nanite tech demo.
It all started with the presentation of the Lumen in the Land of Nanite technological demo on PS5 during the Summer Game Fest. Even then, Epic Games' CEO Tim Sweeney was already delighted with the hardware capabilities and new quality offered by SSDs. This week, other Epic Games employees have also contributed to singing praises: Nick Penwarden (Unreal Engine 5) and Kim Libreri (Chief Technology Officer). Then there was the message about the investment made by Sony and... well, some people quickly connected the dots.
One of the Internet users reminded Sweeney's assurances about the lack of a financial agreement with Sony, and on Twitter he accused him of lying. In response, Epic Games' CEO suggested that there was no secret agreement behind his words about PS5. He also explained that Lumen in the Land of Nanite presentation apparently appealed to the Japanese company's executives and provided the impulse for "serious discussions on the investment".
In line with previous assurances, the cooperation with Sony will not restrict Epic Games' activities. Sweeney mentioned in May that the developed technologies will look great not only on PS5, but also on Xbox Series X and PCs.
