Piranha Bytes Shares New Gameplay and Info on Elex 2

Developers from Piranha Bytes have published a gameplay video from Elex 2, answering a few questions about the game at the same time. We learned something about the combat system and the difficulty level.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Piranha Bytes presented the first gameplay from Elex 2;
  • The developers have also confirmed that "true flight" will be the biggest new feature of their game;
  • However, the title will also see other changes, including an improved combat system, refreshed animations and more challenges and items to discover;
  • The release date of Elex 2 is still unknown.

Announced during E3 2021, Elex 2 did not warm the hearts of Piranha Bytes fans as much as the developers had hoped. The continuation of Elex, which now has been almost four years in the making, seems a bit too similar to the original. However, there will be changes, and their scope was outlined by the creators themselves in an interview for Wccftech.com. By the way, a short gameplay of the upcoming game from the creators of Gothic was made available - you can watch it below.

The novelty, which will distinguish Elex 2 from the first game the most is to be "real flight". It involves both anentire system of aerial combat, as well as the addition of opponents capable of it (all enemies will also have improved AI). The developers have also decided to make attacks a bit more dynamic, flexible and direct - we'll have an impact on, for example, how high we raise the sword or other weapon, which translates into attack power. In addition, all animations have been refreshed, so that the second game seems a little less "wooden".

There are to be more weapons than in Elex and they will be equally diverse: from bows to rocket launchers, from axes to chainsaws. Skills in using them - and all the others, including magic - will be acquired in a similar way. We also decide whether Jax is to specialize in one combat style or maybe combine several of them. Combinations should be worthwhile, because Piranha says that the beginning of the game will be difficult. However, don't expect soulslike gameplay, but something similar to the previous games from the German studio. If an enemy or a boss - clashes with the latter will not be scripted, but take place in the open world - proves to bee too difficult, the only effective tactic may be to escape... and return with a companion or on higher level.

Companions - like in Elex - will be a plenty. Some of them will be new characters, but we'll also encounter many old friends. The same will goes for factions - during the six years that have passed since the finale of the first game, new groups have formed. We will be able to join them, but, of course, not right away; we will start as a freelancer, we will be able to get to know all the factions and do tasks for each.

Our words, decisions and actions will have consequences, the effects of which we will see immediately or after some time. Elex 2 will offer multiple endings... although the same goes for the first game, and the creators chose only one ending as canonical (arguing that it was the finale, which was seen by over 90% of players).

Overall, it's supposed to be "bigger and better" than the original. Only the size of the game world will remain the same, although the developers declare that the list of challenges awaiting us, items to find or characters ready to interact with us or romance will be much longer.

The developers didn't want to talk about some issues at this point. It's about the technical layer of Elex 2 and its release date. Immediately after the announcement, the game's card on Steam listed the year 2021, but at the moment there is only an enigmatic "soon", so we must arm ourselves with patience.
