Do you still remember a game called Immortals of Aveum? The debut title of Ascendant Studios didn't meet expectations, which is why almost half of its developers were laid off a few weeks after the launch. Furthermore, one of the developers later stated that launching this game was a "bad idea" because of the unstable and expensive market.

Now, a year and a half after the release, the publisher of Immortals of Aveum - Electronic Arts - has decided to remove the Denuvo anti-piracy protection from it. This shouldn't be a big surprise, as the company has done the same before with other titles, such as Tales of Kenzera: ZAU or Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

As reported by DSOGaming, Immortals of Aveum experienced stuttering during gameplay, which many likely linked to the notorious protection known for negatively impacting game performance. However, the author of the article expects that the removal of Denuvo won't change how the game runs, as this is simply how the data-loading process was programmed. So we probably won't see a significant improvement in performance.

Removing Denuvo from games some time after their release is nothing new in the gaming industry. It was similar in the case of Lies of P by Neowiz studio or Doom Eternal by Bethesda. You have to regularly pay to maintain this security, so it's no wonder that when the first hype fades away, the creators decide to remove it.

Immortals of Aveum launched on August 22, 2023. The game is available on PC, PS5, and XSX/S.
