EA Reports Big Earning on Live-service Games; Apex Legends Mobile Beyond Expectations
EA has revealed of its financial results. Most of the company's business is now live-service games, but the publisher stresses the importance of single player titles in its growth strategy.
Electronic Arts has published its latest financial report.
- Revenues for the past quarter totaled $1.299 billion, down 3% from the second quarter of 2021.
- Revenue for the period from July 1, 2021 to June 31, 2022 was $7.478 billion, an increase of 22% over the previous corresponding period.
- Live-service games now account for 73% of the publisher's total revenue. This segment recorded a 20% increase in the 12-month period covered by the report.
- The number of active accounts across all EA games now stands at nearly 600 million.
- FIFA Ultimate Team continues to grow rapidly. The company recorded a 40% increase in the popularity of this mode in terms of daily and weekly player activity compared to last year.
- The past quarter was a record quarter for FIFA Mobile - both in terms of revenue and number of players per day.
- The company boasted that Apex Legends Mobile is doing better than forecast, although no specific numbers were provided.
- Mobile gaming revenues in the second quarter of this year totaled $314 million, up 15% from the same period in 2021. This increase stems from FIFA Mobile and the launch of Apex Legends Mobile.

Single player games are still important for EA.
The publisher's live-service games are doing well, but during the presentation of financial results it was emphasized that single player titles are still an important part of the company's business.
EA's release plans for single player projects are ambitious. January 2023 will see the release of the remake of Dead Space, and some time after it Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will debut on the market.
Further plans also include Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and Mass Effect 5.
