Millions of Gamers Claimed Free Dying Light; Techland is Shocked
Recently, Dying Light: Enhanced Edition was available for free on Epic Games Store. Apparently, this not-so-young title is still of interest to many players - Techland boasted that millions of users have picked it up.
For several years now, Epic Games has been trying to attract gamers with weekly giveaways of free games. Quite recently, from April 6 to 13, in the publisher's store one could pick up the first Dying Light in Enhanced Edition. Although the opportunity was not met with as much interest as, for example, free GTA V, it attracted quite a lot of people. Techland boasted, that as many as 15 million users have picked up Dying Light: Enhanced Edition as part of - what the developers called - "a free ticket to Harran."
"We are grateful that so many fans and gamers in general are so interested in the Dying Light series. For the first time ever, we could see a record number of more than 760,000 people simultaneously playing the first installment. This result exceeded our wildest expectations and is a testament to the continued popularity of the game," said Oleg Klapovskiy, head of Techland's publishing department.
The scale of this giveaway is most evident when compared with sales figures for Dying Light. In January, Techland revealed that a total of 30 million copies of the first and second part of the series were sold. Unfortunately, we do not have updated data on how many people have since purchased the first game - the in April last year, the developers reported that it had moved 20 million copies.
Dying Light: Enhanced Edition - in addition to the base game - includes several paid DLCs and a Season Pass, and so also the biggest story expansion, namely The Following. Dying Light debuted in 2015 on PS4 and Xbox One consoles, as well as on PCs. Later on, the game was also released on Switch, PS5 and XSX/S.
