Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sells Like Hot Cakes. Open-World Action RPG From Capcom Is Big Hit
Dragon's Dogma 2 took less than two weeks to hit 2.5 million copies sold. The controversy didn't stop it from being a success.
Dragon's Dogma II is undoubtedly the most controversial premiere of March. The game received positive reviews from critics, but following its release, it faced a wave of negative feedback from players, primarily due to the inclusion of microtransactions, poor optimization, and the inability to start a new game (some of these issues were addressed in the latest patch).
However, the controversy didn't hinder the achievement of excellent sales - Capcom has just announced that they have surpassed 2.5 million copies in under 2 weeks since the premiere. On the other hand, the whole series was distributed in over 10 million copies.
In comparison, Dragon's Dogma from 2012 was available in a million copies on store shelves within the first month of its release. However, it's important to note that at that time, the first installment wasn't released for PCs and was only available on seventh generation consoles. This only changed in 2016, when an enhanced edition subtitled Dark Arisen was released on PC.
The impressive sales of Dragon's Dogma 2 shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, especially given the large number of players who are enjoying the game on PCs every day. Over the past 24 hours, the peak exceeded 113,000 players (via SteamDB).
Dragon's Dogma 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
