Digital Dragons 2020 Rescheduled
For fear of the coronavirus, Krakow Technology Park has decided to postpone the Digital Dragons 2020 event. According to current plans, the event will take place on September 14-15.
- Due to coronavirus threat, Digital Dragons 2020 conference was moved to September 14-15.
- All tickets purchased so far will enable us to enter the event on the new date.
- The changes also affected the Indie Showcase competition.
The pandemic of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, commonly called the novel coronavirus, has redrawn plans for yet another event. This time we are talking about Digital Dragons 2020, which was to be held at ICE Krakow Congress Centre on May 18-19. Due to the recent events, the organizer of the conference, Krakow Technology Park, decided to postpone its date to September 14-15 (the place remains unchanged). Here is what we can read in an official statement:
"The health and safety of our partners, exhibitors, speakers, and attendees comes first. We apologize to you – all, who wished to attend Digital Dragons. This is a dire situation with wildly inconceivable consequences worldwide, and COVID-19 threat can’t be taken lightly."
Of course, all those who have already purchased a ticket for Digital Dragons 2020 will be able to attend the event in September. However, if this deadline does not suit them, they have been given the option to request a refund.
It is worth remembering that the sale of tickets for the conference is still ongoing. They are available in three versions - regular pass, costing 195 EUR, business pass for 230 EUR, and the most expensive, VIP pass, on which we have to spend 600 EUR. As of July 1, the prices of the first two will increase to 230 EUR and 325 EUR respectively. Details of what each pass offers can be found here.
So far, it is not known whether the change of date will somehow affect the composition of the speakers to give lectures during Digital Dragons 2020. So far, it has been announced that they were to include Chris Bourassa (Co-creator of Darkest Dungeon), Randy Varnell (Creative Director of the Borderlands and Brothers in Arms series), Inon Zur (Music Composer for Fallout 4 and Dragon Age: Origins, for example) and Juha Vainio (Executive Producer of Control). According to the organizers' representatives on Facebook, consultations with these people are currently underway.
We know that while the shift in the Digital Dragons 2020 calendar will not affect the Digital Dragons Awards (these awards for the best games of last year will be awarded later than usual, in parallel with the event), it will cause some commotion in the Indie Showcase competition. All entries submitted so far have been canceled. Those wishing to show their work will have to resend it between May 1 and July 1.
Digital Dragons has been one of the largest conferences for nine years now, primarily for game developers in Europe. Last year, the event was attended by 2 thousand people. Will rescheduling of the upcoming edition have a positive or negative impact on the interest in it? We will find out about it soon.
