Blizzard on Planned Updates for Diablo 2: Resurrected
Blizzard has announced plans to fix Diablo II: Resurrected. The changes largely affect the servers, but there will be plenty of smaller fixes.
The servers of Diablo II: Resurrected are not ones that players can rely on, and Blizzard realizes this. The game's forums posted information about the steps that will be taken in the near future to improve D2R. There are plans to test a new way of saving, a patch related to the login queue and other minor improvements.
Some time ago we informed about disappearing characters from Diablo II: Resurrected, which happened due to server crashes. In order to prevent similar situations from happening in the future, Blizzard is going to introduce a new method of saving player progress. As we can read on the forum:
"As we mentioned in our last update, character saves have been occurring on the global database. Next week, our internal teams will begin testing a significant change by having saves occur more often on the regional end, rather than global, in hopes of alleviating some database stress. Once our internal load testing is complete, we will put up a PTR server with this fix to get some real-world testing before rolling out to the live game."
In addition, we can expect a patch next week, which will improve the operation of server queues. According to the forum, the patch will add an estimated time left before we can join, which will be visible next to our position in the queue.
Moreover, there will be a system introduced to the game, which will enable us to limit the games to different time frames. This solution is to make it easier for more players to play in periods when there is the most traffic on the servers. Additionally, Diablo will receive some bug fixes and new features, which we will see in the near future.
So are the days of server problems over? We will find out soon. However, let's hope that this will actually happen and Diablo II: Resurrected will be playable without worrying about losing your progress.
