Dead Island 2 Only on PC, XSX and PS5. Last-gen Versions Abandoned
Reports have surfaced online claiming that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Dead Island 2 have been canceled, and that the game will only be coming to PC and next-gen consoles, namely Xbox Series X/ and PS5.
- Developer: Dambuster Studios
- Publisher: Deep Silver
- Genre: Action Game
- Platform: PC, PS5, XONE
- Release date: God only knows
Many people have long given up hope that Dead Island 2 will ever be released, but in reality work on the game continues. The latest reports suggest that Dambuster, the studio behind the project, has abandoned plans to create PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Currently, the title is to be developed exclusively for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles.
The source of this information is the analyst MauroNL, who has a good reputation in the matter of industry reports. To confirm his words he cites job offers published on Dambuster Studios' website. You can read in them that the team is working on a game from a well-known AAA brand, which is coming to PC and next-gen consoles. The title is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and will offer ray-tracing.
Plans of developing the next-gen versions are not a surprise, as the information about them appeared a year ago. What is new is the cancelation of edition for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Such a move should not be surprising, however. So far we have not seen any footage of the current release of the game, so we probably still have to wait a long time for the launch, and with each passing month the XONE and PS4 editions make less and less sense.
As you may remember, we've been waiting for Dead Island 2 for a very long time - the project was announced seven years ago. Since then, he changed developers twice. First, Yager Development was replaced by Sumo Digital, and then the project was taken over by the team at Dambuster Studios, known for developing Homefront: The Revolution.
This last developer has been working on the game for almost two years now. We do not know whether the devs started from scratch, or decided to use at least some of the elements prepared by the predecessors. We can only hope that we will not have to wait long for the first materials from the latest incarnation of Dead Island 2.
