Cyberpunk 2077 is Not a 'Labor of Love'? Steam Award Dispute [UPDATE]
Cyberpunk 2077 received a Steam award in the Labor of Love category. This result did not please some gamers. This is because among the nominees there were titles that, in their opinion, are more deserving of the title.
Update
Player dissatisfaction seems to be growing. In recent days Cyberpunk 2077's card on Steam began to show more negative reviews. They allege that the game won the "Labor of Love" award only because of its popularity, which was further fueled by the anime series released this year. They also stress that two years of development of the title amounted to fixing bugs rather than adding new content.
At this point, it's hard to call this review bombing, because Cyberpunk 2077 continues to receive more positive reviews. However, it is clear that a part of the community has no intention of letting go.
Original message
Steam 2022 awards have been bestowed recently. This year's edition was not without controversy - all due to the award in the "Labor of Love" category, which went to Cyberpunk 2077. Many gamers disagree with this choice, and it's hard to be surprised. After all, the game's development is far from perfect (via PCGamesN).
The award in question applies to games released before 2022, which are still supported by the developers and regularly receive new updates. So in theory Cyberpunk 2077 qualifies for this category, since the game was released in 2020, and in recent months it received, among other things, a major update numbered 1.6, adding, for example, three side missions and new equipment.
In practice, however, the situation is not so rosy. Often the gaps between updates have grown long - more than half a year has passed between patches 1.3 and 1.5, for example - and besides that development of the game still largely revolves around fixing elements that should have worked flawlessly back when it debuted, two years ago (and there is still no shortage of aspects that are far from perfect, such as the police system).
Therefore, a not inconsiderable portion of the gaming community felt that it was hardly fair for Cyberpunk 2077 to received this award. Especially since among the other nominees were titles that are more respected among fans because of how their development is conducted. A great example is No Man's Sky, which has been successively receiving huge updates, adding a lot of content and making significant changes to the gameplay. Another strong candidate for this award was Project Zomboid, which in my opinion is currently the best survival game in terms of complexity.
However, Steam awards are given by the players themselves, so we can only blame ourselves for such verdict. Ot, the charms of democracy.
