Crusader Kings 3 Player Achieves Cultural Domination in 44 In-game Years
One CK 3 player set himself the goal of converting all the provinces present in the game's world map into one culture. It took him just 44 in-game years. He spent about 100 real-life hours preparing the entire plan and then executing it.
- A Reddit user known as doctorsandwich8 managed to change the culture of all the provinces present on CK3's map to Outremer;
- He used the decisions and some gameplay loopholes available in the game to do so;
- To achieve his goal, he needed 44 in-game years and about 100 real-life hours to develop and execute the whole plan.
There are two ways to play Crusader Kings III. Some prefer to place certain restrictions on themselves, such as making decisions based solely on the characters they control, to add to the atmosphere of being the head of a medieval family, and creating an alternate version of history. Others prefer to have as much fun as possible and conquer the surrounding areas as quickly as possible. The latter gameplay model has been mastered by a person known on Reddit as doctorsandwich8. In the past few months, thanks to the proper use of mechanics and some gaps in gameplay, he managed to achieve some really impressive things in the latest installment of the strategy game series from Paradox - among others, he conquered the entire map in 23 in-game years and converted all provinces to a single religion in 29 years. Most recently, doctorsandwich8 managed to change the culture of all provinces to Outremer, which was unique to Crusader states. He needed 44 in-game years to do this, which is a very short period.
It was a much bigger challenge than conquering the entire world or converting it to one religion. After all, there aren't many tricks in Crusader Kings III for instantly changing the culture of a single region. This is accomplished in a fairly short amount of time primarily through the use of three in-game decisions - Form the Outremer Empire (which causes 50% of all your direct Frankish vassals to change their culture to Outremer), Create the Kingdom of Israel (which causes about 33% of your counties to change their religion and culture to that of the player), and Embrace Outremer Culture (which can only be taken by AI-controlled kingdoms or principalities with capitals in Africa, the Middle East, and Persia).
To maximize their effect, doctorsandwich8 had to work hard. First of all, he conquered the world. Once that was behind him, he had to win a series of civil wars to, among other things, take land from his vassals, juggle religions and other cultures, destroy and create noble titles, and finally fund his subjects so that they could change their civilization.
It took doctorsandwich8 about 100 hours to develop this system and then put it into practice until one culture dominated the entire map in Crusader Kings III. If you would like to try to repeat his feat, a detailed description of the steps he took can be found here.
Crusader Kings III is available exclusively on PC since September 1, last year. Most likely on March 13 we'll learn the title of the first expansion for the game. Who knows, maybe thanks to it we will get new mechanics which will be an excuse to set new records.
