Crusader Kings 3 Mod The Way of Kings Goes Live

At the end of last week, an early version of a Crusader Kings 3 mod titled The Way of Kings was released. Its action takes place in the fantasy world of Roshar created by Brandon Sanderson, known from the pages of The Stormlight Archive novels.

IN A NUTSHELL
  1. An early version of The Way of Kings mod, which takes the action of Crusader Kings 3 from the Middle Ages to the land of Roshar known from the book series Storm Light Archive by Brandon Sanderson, has seen the light of day.
  2. In the mod we will find not only a carefully reconstructed map of the said world, but also characters known from books and new mechanics.

Fans of fantasy are certainly no strangers to the name Brandon Sanderson. This American writer has a lot of books and stories to his credit. One of his most popular works are novels belonging to The Stormlight Archive series initiated by The Way of Kings. Although the books have fans all over the world, they have not seen a lot of exposition in other media so far. As far as digital entertainment is concerned, only a short VR adventure game The Way of Kings: Escape the Shattered Plains by Arcturus VR was created. However, if we would like to play something more ambitious based on Sanderson's book series, you might be interested in the The Way of Kings mod for Crusader Kings III. You can find a link to it below.

The Way of Kings clearly changes the face of the medieval global strategy game from Paradox Interactive. The changes are visible right after the title is launched - while loading, instead of drawings known from the regular game, we can see paintings inspired by events from the books. It only gets better from there - we get the entire map of the magical land of Roshar, plagued by powerful storms, and we can play as almost every, even the smallest, ruler of its lands. However, for many players, it will probably be most interesting to take on the role of one of the Highprinces of Alethkar, who, led by King Elhokar, fights the Parshendi people in the Shattered Plains to avenge the death of the previous king, Gavilar.

In order to reflect the atmosphere of Sanderson's novel as much as possible, the creators of the mod tried to faithfully recreate the most important characters known from the books, together with matching skills and character traits, as well as powerful artifacts (after all, what would The Stormlight Archive be without powerful armor and blades). They also did not forget to prepare special mechanics of the Radiants, a system of magic, cultural groups (with unique technologies to discover), religions, additional events related to books, new types of terrain, an unprecedented type of rule (Highprinces) and much more. And it should be remembered that the mod is currently in the Alpha version, which means that it is only at the beginning of development and should receive a lot of new elements and a number of improvements for those already existing in the coming months.

If someone would like to help with the mod, they can apply to the creators on Discord. The official server can be found here.

If you have Crusader Kings III and would like to play another mod that brings the title's action to a fantasy world, we would like to remind that an early version of LotR: Realms in Exile has been available for some time now, whos action takes place in the universe created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Moreover, a fan project based on A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin is already under development. You can read about its current status here.
