Iconic Corsairs Will Return After 25 Years; Reboot Announced
Microids has announced a reboot of the iconic strategy game Corsairs: Conquest at Sea.
Apparently, pirate vibes are returning to the favor of developers. Microids follows in the footsteps of Mimimi Games, which in early 2023 announced Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew. The French have announced a reboot of the iconic strategy game Corsairs: Conquest at Sea, originally released in 1999.
The new version of the game - developed by Belgian studio Fishing Cactus, authors of, among others, the excellent Epistory: Typing Chronicles - is titled Corsairs: The Battle of the Caribbean and is scheduled for release in 2024. on PC and all leading consoles, i.e. PS4, PS5, XOne, XSX/S and Switch.
- The action will be set in the open world of the eponymous Caribbean, which is expected to feature a "touch of modern world" (the original was set in the 18th century).
- The game will offer five campaigns - French, English, Dutch, Danish and Spanish (the latter two were not present in the original)....
- ...as well as three modes - adventure, management and strategic.
- It will also be possible to play quick skirmishes - against AI, in local or online mode (up to four people).
- The player's fleet will consist of seventeen different types of ships - each faction to have one special ship - firing three types of ammunition.
- Compared to the original, the trading system has been expanded, among other things, and progression has been improved - we will acquire the resources needed to upgrade ships through exploration, performing missions and defeating enemies.
The announcement was without a trailer. Below you can instead take a look at some screenshots from Corsairs: The Battle of the Caribbean:
