CoD Vanguard Will Present an Alternative Take on World War II
From several previews of Call of Duty: Vanguard, it appears that the campaign will take place mainly in an alternate version of World War II that lasted longer than the historical conflict.
The last dozen hours or so belonged to Call of Duty: Vanguard, the new installment of the world's most popular FPS series. The game's official website suggests that the action will be set during World War II, but it turns out that it won't be the same conflict we know from the history books.
As reported by PC Gamer (accompanied by Rock Paper Shotgun) most of the story will take place after Hitler's death. The plot will revolve around an attempt to stop a fictional villain named Heinrich Freisinger, who will try to become the Führer's successor.
Call of Duty: Vanguard will offer an alternative history, in which the battles will take place after the end date of the conflict in our reality. Missions will take place on the eastern and western front of Europe, North Africa and the Pacific, but many of the clashes will turn out to be a figment of the authors' imagination. It's unclear how far the developers from Sledgehammer will go. It's possible that they will only slightly distort the historical truth, but they can also go crazy offering us completely fantastic scenarios.
It is worth noting that such information can be found only in a few previews. So it's possible that their authors got something wrong, although it does not seem likely. Recall, however, that when in March this year the first reports appeared about CoD Vanguard, rumors said that the campaign will take place in an alternative reality, in which the war stretched to the 50s of the last century. Eurogamer later debunked that speculation, but now there's plenty of indication that the original source, Modern Warzone, was at least partially correct.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is being developed for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The game will be released on November 5 this year.
