Original message (October 29, 2022)
Yesterday saw the launch of the full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (those with preorders had access to the campaign a week earlier). It is already known that the game's debut on PC was a great success (via VG247).
- On Steam, the number of people playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has been growing all the time since its release - the activity record at the time of writing is 253,020 concurrent users, and was set just around 5 minutes ago.
- Such a result makes CoD: Modern Warfare II the most popular installment of the series on Steam. The previous record holder was Call of Duty: Black Ops III with just 63,681 concurrent users.
- It should be added that the aforementioned CoD: Black Ops III was one of the last parts of the series released on Steam. Subsequent ones - until now - were released only through Battle.net.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II's results clearly show that the decision to return the brand to Steam was the correct one. The game is helped by the fact that the release on this platform runs standalone and does not require the simultaneous launch of the Battle.net client.
The game is immensely popular despite its not entirely enthusiastic reception. On Steam only 53% of user reviews praise Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which is categorized as "mixed" reception. Players mainly complain about the poor technical condition, but, as you can see from the activity results, most of them grit their teeth and continue playing.
Recall that beyond PC Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
