Chernobylite Fares Decently on Twitch, Less so on Steam

Chernobylite first day on the market turned out to be somewhat of a mixed bag. The game achieves average activity scores, but it's getting increasingly good ratings.

Yesterday marked the release of Chernobylite, a Chernobyl survival horror game from The Farm 51, so it's worth taking a look at how the title fared.

At the hottest point of the launch day, the title was played on Steam by 2017 people at the same time. Such a result is not bad, but it is rather far from what the devs expect, especially when we compare it with other productions released this week.

The results of the hottest paid premieres on Steam this week

Game:

Activity record on Steam

Tribes of Midgard

26 731

Orcs Must Die! 3

13 210

Idol Manager

2630

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles

2510

Chernobylite

2017

Clone Drone in the Danger Zone

1944

Samurai Warriors 5

1876

HighFleet

1709

As you can see, Chernobylite not only lost to the big multiplayer releases such as Tribes of Midgard or Orcs Must Die! 3 , but also fared worse than seemingly more niche games like The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles and Idol Manager. The game is not much more popular than HighFleet and that's a small indie title created by just one person. It also compares poorly with another Polish FPS, namely last month\s Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, which holds the record of 7055 simultaneous players.

On the positive side, it is worth adding that Chernobylite arouses considerable interest among Twitch audiences. At the hottest moment of Wednesday, broadcasts of the game were watched by over 41 thousand people.

Moreover,Chernobylite seems to appeal to players who purchased it. On Steam, the game has over 3300 user ratings and 78% of them praise the Polish production, which the service categorizes as "mostly positive reception".

Chernobylite is also getting increasingly reviews in industry media. Currently, the game has an average rating of 75% on Metacritic, while at the time of release it was only 69%. Our editor also appreciated the project, giving it 8.0/10, so we hope that the average debut will not diminish the chances of the title's success and it will be gaining new buyers for a long time. It is worth noting that in September a version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles will be released. It is possible that the title will record a more dynamic launch on these platforms.
