Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone was announced in August this year, and a little over a week ago we received the first trailer with gameplay footage. Now, the co-founder of the Polish The Farm 51, Maciej Pazdur, gave an interview to Wccftech, in which he shed some more light on the upcoming production.

Changes compared to the first game

The creator admitted that the first part was not exactly the game the team had envisioned from the beginning, due to factors such as a limited budget or technology. It's supposed to be different in the case of Chernobylite 2, which already has a solid foundation and a proven world, and the whole thing will be powered by the Unreal Engine 5.

We even had an inside joke: we named the second game ChernobyFull. This shows how much we wanted this game to be a full, top-class experience that we wanted to create from scratch.

No one will probably be surprised by the fact that the "sequel" will be a much more developed product. Pazdur talks about a 20 times larger open world, filled with more characters, weapons, gadgets, mechanics, or enemies. Therefore, completing the entire game will take 2-3 times longer.

There will also be factions with their representatives who manage individual zones. We will be able to cooperate with them, which will enable us to gain special skills. However, systems related to attributes and abilities are expected to be similar to what we know from RPGs.

TPP view

According to Pazdur, the biggest change is supposed to be the TPP view, which will become the default perspective. The goal is to give the game an RPG character, but also to separate it from titles such as Metro or STALKER. Additionally, the hand-to-hand combat will be expanded, which better aligns with the new perspective. However, it should be noted that during exploration, the optional FPP mode will still be available. The creator also realizes that this change may disappoint some players.

We hope that the players will forgive us because we have tested this [TPP view - ed. note] both with current and new fans. Even the present told us that the new system works much better. The FPP shooting in Chernobylite was just mediocre. We knew and heard about it. TPP view combat actually works better in our game.

Cooperation mode

We already know that Chernobylite 2 will offer a cooperative mode, in which we will be able to play the game together with friends. Pazdur added, however, that there will also be special bosses and locations that can be quite a challenge and it will be better not to approach them alone.

"I don't want to reveal too much, but yes, for example, it would be better to fight some bosses with the help of friends. There are also special locations. I haven't shown you too much of this yet, but we also have dungeons and even huge towers."

Release date

At the end of the interview, Pazdur confirmed that Chernobylite 2 will be released next year and specified that it will probably happen in August or September. However, this is not a definite date as it depends on many factors. The creator mentioned, for example, a premiere in early access or the later release of the console version (PS5, XSX/S), after the PC launch. However, he noted that he would prefer to avoid both of these things.
