Call of Duty Won't Take Up Your Entire Hard Drive This Time
It looks like the developers of Call of Duty: Vanguard are learning from their mistakes. Their game will take up much less disk space than the previous installments of the series.
- Developers of Call of Duty: Vanguard have announced that their game will take up less space than previous installments;
- This is achieved by using texture streaming technology;
- The solution saves between 30 and 50% of disk space.
Recent Call of Duty installments have been true monsters in terms of disk space requirements. This often led to complaints from players who were unable to install anything but Activision's shooter on their hardware. Fortunately, this did not escape the attention of the creators of the new game. The series' Twitter account announced that Vanguard will weigh much less.
The developers solved the problem in an unusual way - the new game uses texture streaming technology. Some of them are not located directly on the disk, but are downloaded from the servers at the right moment. This is to reduce the size of the game on consoles and PCs by 30 to 50%. Unfortunately, specific numbers were not provided.
Such a change will certainly appeal to some players. It is worth recalling that the various installments of the series could reach colossal sizes. Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War occupied up to 250 GB on the day of release. Warzone, after slimming down, consumed about 80 GB. Also updates happened to shock many fans. Patch, which at some point had to be downloaded by the owners of Warzone and CoD: Modern Warfare, weighed a staggering 133 GB.
