Today, survival horror Buried in Ice was announced. Its concept resembles John Carpenter's film The Thing. The game is developed by debuting studio Liquid Engine Development. On this occasion, the first trailer was released to introduce us to the atmosphere of the world. The title will be available on PC and unspecified consoles. Its launch date remains unknown.
In Buried in Ice we will play as Kurt who was the sole survivor of the attack of a mysterious creature and a fire of a research base located somewhere in Antarctica. The team that rescued him suspects that he is the one responsible for the fire. The protagonist, on the other hand, realizes that the creature was not defeated, and now he has to face it again.
The gameplay is a mixture of three genres - horror, survival and RPG. Our tasks include exploring the facility, providing for the basic needs of the protagonist, building relationships with others and fighting the monster using fire. An important role in the game is played by Kurt's mental health - if it deteriorates, the protagonist will start having panic attacks or even try to commit suicide. The developers put great emphasis on variety. Our actions will determine how many people will survive the ordeal.
The trailer itself suggests that we're dealing with an inspiration from the aforementioned The Thing. Both productions have a bunch of common themes, such as a destroyed base in Antarctica or the mysterious creature that can only be killed with fire. How Buried in Ice will work in practice and how strongly we will feel the inspirations, we will find out in time, when we will see the first gameplays.
