First strong clues pointing to existence of iconic cow level in Diablo 4 appeared as early as June, but it seems that we didn't have a real breakthrough on the matter until yesterday (via wowhead.com).

One player - with the help of other self-proclaimed "cow detectives" - has collected three relics that paved the way to a hidden location. This in turn - according to the majority of the community following the topic - is supposed to hide the solution to the mystery of the legendary level, which has accompanied the series since the days of Diablo 2.

This player shared his findings on YouTube (footage below), shedding some new light on the progress of the search for the cow king and his herd.

In the description of the video, the discoverer of the latest secret of Diablo 4 reads: "We don't yet know if this is an actual cow level or just another step in the process. Time to drink a lot of gross milk, I guess."

The author's words mean that the issue that's been firing up Diablo 4 player imagination may have just been solved, and the hidden level itself is nothing more than an interesting easter egg. Still, these are only speculations.

Diablo 4's biggest mystery?

The matter of getting to the secret location is extremely complicated. As it turns out, in order to get one of the special items, you need to kill exactly 666 cows in the game world.. Sounds absurd? That's just the beginning.

  • The problem is that a single player may get only one relic per week, or more precisely once every 666666 seconds - at least that's what the "bovine raiders" on the fan Discord channel claim.
  • Keep in mind that in doing so, one needs to collect as many as three different relics from the collection (fortunately, they can be traded), i.e. a bloody wooden shard, an intricate metallic fragment and a musty tom.
  • That's not all, however, as the above items must then be combined together to create a "strange key." This can only be done at the inconspicuous Oxen shrine in the city of Ked Bardu.
  • Only with the key in your inventory can you go to an abandoned shack in the Scosglen region, which will unlock a new "spot" where you will find... more cows.

And that would basically be it - at least for now. For the discovered room, apart from a few resources and animals that are not hostile to the player, does not hide anything special.

Well, except perhaps that after killing all the cows, the last cow drops a potion of stamina. This is a reference to the king of the herd from Diablo 2, who always leaves behind a similar item after his death. Nevertheless, here's where the trail breaks off.

As I mentioned before, we do not know if this is the end of the easter egg with cows in D4, or whether the developers will at some point indeed open a portal to another dimension in the hidden hut.

As you can see, there are still a lot of question marks on this topic, so the search continues, and those most involved are already analyzing its next threads.

If the topic of the hidden cow level has also interested you, then for more information I refer you to the discord channel of its searchers, which you can find here.

And if you were wondering - like me - how players figured out how to unlock access to the secret location, I hasten to answer that it is largely thanks to dataminers, who have been "digging out" various hidden tidbits from the game's files since beta testing.

I would also like to remind you that Diablo 4 has been running its second season for several days now, which, in addition to the vampire theme, has introduced to the game a ton of changes from "quality-of-life" category and balanced the gameplay.
