Bethesda announces Survival Mode for Skyrim, available now as beta on Steam
With the all new Survival Mode, dragons and other fantasy creatures won't be the only things trying to kill you in Skyrim. Players will also have to protect themselves from hunger, cold, disease and other survival-related dangers.
Bethesda has revealed an all new Survival Mode for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition coming to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 soon. While the console players must wait until early October to play it, PC fans can already check it out by opting into the Steam beta.
Survival Mode adds a score of new challenges to the game by adding such dangers as hunger, fatigue, cold, warmth (as armor statistics), freezing water, disease and afflictions, and disabling health regeneration and fast travel. Satisfying Dovahkin’s hunger will obviously require eating (preferably cooked food), and you can get warmer by standing close to a campfire or eating hot soup. The mod also divides Skyrim into climate zones, so you better make sure that you are well prepared before stepping into a freezing region. Other changes introduced in the Survival Mode are significantly reduced carry weight, leveling up only in bed and more. See the announcement on Bethesda’s official website to learn how exactly individual factors impact gameplay.
This is the first piece of content for Skyrim Special Edition included in the so-called Creation Club, a mod-driven service, which sells fully curated add-ons for Credits (which can be bought for real money). While we don’t know the price of the Survival Mode for Skyrim, Bethesda says it is going to be free for a week after the launch.
