Best-Selling PC-Only Game of All Time Is Garry's Mod, Not WoW
We learned the title of the best-selling PC exclusive game. Garry's Mod was officially declared as such. The title developed by Garry Newman was included in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Many players, especially enthusiastic modders, are likely familiar with the platform game Garry's Mod, which was first released in 2006. After 18 years of excellent sales and a huge number of positive reviews, the game has officially been awarded the title of the best-selling PC "exclusive" in history. Garry Newman's project has found over 20 million buyers.
The sandbox in question surpassed even World of Warcraft in this aspect, including it in the latest edition of the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2025, a fact that the Facepunch studio proudly shared on X.
Garry Newman himself, the creator of the now legendary "sandbox," also commented on the success. The developer jokingly wrote that he never saw himself holding a world record that wasn't associated with prawn cocktail chips.
Garry's Mod allows you to play with models from popular Valve games, developed on the Source engine. Thanks to this, players have already created hundreds of thousands of funny scenes and actions using characters from Counter-Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, or Half-Life 2.
The game is still regularly played by tens of thousands of users on Valve's platform. To confirm what was said, let's refer to the statistics available on SteamDB: the peak in the last 24 hours was 23,929 players simultaneously, and the record high was 73,863 people.
Garry's Mod received almost 1,100,000 reviews, of which 96% were positive. The game can be purchased only on Steam for $9.99.
Garry Newman is currently working on a successor to Garry's Mod – S&box. After a controversy with the Unity engine, the developer decided to develop his own technology based on Source 2, which will be used in the new sandbox. There are many videos online showing what awaits us in Newman's next game.
