Baldur’s Gate – New Installment in the Series Will Be Officially Revealed July 9
A countdown clock has appeared on the website of studio Beamdog, indicating the time left to the official reveal of project Adventure Y, which is the new installment in the Baldur's Gate series, set between the first and second part of the cycle.
A countdown clock has appeared on the official website of the enhanced edition of the Baldur's Gate series, counting the days and hours remaining until the announcement of a new project from studio Beamdog. For the time being we don’t know for sure which production it refers to, but most likely it is the game known under the working title Adventure Y, which is to bridge the gap between the events of the two installments of this cycle.
We’ll find out whether the whole fuss is really about this project on July 9, because this is when the countdown comes to an end. Fans have analyzed the official website’s code and found that this is also the day when a Twitch stream will launch, during which the new game will be officially presented.
At the moment, the information we have about Adventure Y is very scarce. We know it will be a stand-alone game, which will utilize the two-dimensional Infinite Engine, and its aim is to bridge the gap between the first and second part of the series. The team from Beamdog say that this is by far the most ambitious project they have worked on, but at the same time they emphasize that this is not Baldur's Gate III. This doesn’t mean that the third part of the series will never see the light of day, but right now the team would rather try their hand at a slightly more modest production.
Let’s also keep in mind that apart from Adventure Y, Beamdog is working on yet another undisclosed production under the working title Project: Beartrap. We know even less about this particular project. The only piece of information available suggests that it will be a considerable departure from what we could expect from this studio. The first solid info will be announced at the end of summer.
So far, Beamdog has focused mainly on developing enhanced versions of cRPGs built on Infinity Engine. To date, we have received three such productions: Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition. Many players hope that a revamped edition of Icewind Dale II will also appear, but it doesn’t seem very likely. According to the head of the team, this game was a radical departure from the solutions known from earlier installments. A host of technological changes were introduced, along with a new interface, and the rules of the gameplay were changed to those from the third edition of Dungeons & Dragons –all this would make it a whole lot more difficult for Beamdog to deal with this title. The authors are not ruling out the possibility of ever taking up this project, but for now they prefer to focus on other endeavors.
